Default months on end

Hi,

What does the ‘on end’ part indicate in the following sentence?

‘We have been co-operative with the bank for months on end.’

Thanks,

MG.

Hi musicgold,

It means "for many months", if you can imagine months laid out from end to end, in other words, from the end of one month to the end of another, then you can see that with the plural "months" we are talking about several months from end to end that we have been co-operative with the bank .
