Default meaning of "angling for a job"

Dear teachers,

I read this from True Pleasures by Lucinda Holdforth:

"...she declared: I am angling like mad for a job in Paris. She emphasised that such a plan was all very nebulous..."

Is "angle for a job" the same idea as "look for a job"? Does "such a plan" in this sentence refer to her plan about looking for a job?

Eway, yes to both your questions. To angle in this context would have the same meaning as 'to fish'. i.e, (metaphorical) to drop a baited hook into a sea of jobs and wait for a one to grab on.

Angling for a job-look for a job.
For 'such a plan'',the previous sentences would help.

Default Re: meaning of "angling for a job"

It's more than just 'look for a job'. As the bard's brother says, it's more along the lines of casting a line into different parts of the river, giving the fisherman more chance of a trout seeing the fly and biting. It implies not only the usual manner of looking in job adverts, but perhaps letting people who know people know that you're in the market for a job etc. Using as many contacts and avenues as you can.
