What does this sentence mean ?
'There are much more worthy and 'erudite' people around here than me I 'm not worth the effort'

I feel there are other people around here (at school/at my company) that are more valuable to the school/companyand more learned/educated than I am, so I am shocked/surprised that anyone would (want to) help me/be kind to me/pick me/promote me, etc.
erudite, having acquired knowledge through academic study.
