Default To dish about

Soccer superstar David Beckham appears on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' to dish about making babies with wife Victoria.

I'm come across "dish about" I've ever heard before. Only knew "dish out" or "dish up". What does it mean?

Thanks in advance!

It's slang for idle talk; gossip.

Is there a worse connotation about that?

I mean when you "dish about" something you slag someone off. Like this sentence: one is spreading ... on someone.

This source dish: Definition and Much More from Answers.com gives "Chiefly British Slang. To ruin, foil, or defeat."

Must be Am English. We have 'dish the dirt' over here (though that started life as an Americanism - I first heard it in the Pal Joey song 'That's why the lady is a tramp'); I suppose the progression was from 'dish the dirt about' to 'dish about'.

b

PS 'It's most king of you'. Don't you mean "queen"?

Could you give your idiom to me? And please, tell me whether I got to be wrong for "It's (the) most king of you".

Oh, I want to pick BobK's brains.

I wouldn't call it "mine". The idiom 'dish the dirt', which we share with Am English, means "gossip". The line in that song was 'Don't ["She doesn't" - it's in a list of things the 'tramp' does] dish the dirt with the rest of the girls - That's why the lady is a tramp'. (It might as well have been in a foreign language when I first heard it - 'dish the dirt' 'tramp' )

(And pick away )
