I have two questions to ask:

No.1

Horses are the principle means of transportation. I can also use "transport'. Is that right?

No.2
He told me he had just had a kidney __________. (transplant)
I think I have two choices.

The first one is :
He told me he had just had a kidney transplant. This is emphacizes it is not other organ transplant.

The second one is:
He told me he had just had a kidney transplanted. This emphacizes the fact that he asked some people (doctors) to transplant his kedney. Is that right?

In the dictionary it reads that in American English "transportation" is what "transport" in British English. But I'd like to make sure of it.

As soup said, 'transplanted' = a kidney [that was] transplanted. You would find it in the form:
"He told me he had just had a kidney transplanted from a pig."

That dictionary was right. In Br English 'means of transport' is fine (and prescriptivists and Little Englanders regard it as preferable). But the influence of film/media/internet/24-hr news/...what-have-you? has made the longer form quite common.
