When it was first written for a film soundtrack, it evoked the feelings of a man in jail wondering whether his love would still be there when he got out.
And bhaisabab is quite right about 'godspeed'. It is a fairly archaic wish to someone setting out on a journey (as one word - like 'goodbye' [=God be with you]), and the song uses it as two words to change the wish from a wish directed at a departing person into a wish for divine intervention - '[may] God [make the necessary arrangements to] speed [
transitive] your love to me'.
