Default looking for an easier word/phrase

introverted: someone who is introverted is quiet and shy and does not enjoy being with other people

I think "introverted" is kind off uncommon. I am looking for a commoner word or phrase similar to it. It doesn't have to be exactly the same as "introverted". Thanks. :) ( You may tell me that "introverted" is common enough. :) )

Three other words that are close to "introvert" are: recluse, loner and lone hand.
