Default station and stop, 1900-1909

Dear teachers,

I have one questions to ask:

No.1
In first decade of the 1900s, fashionable women needed morning dresses, afternoon dresses, evening gowns, and simpler dresses.

Could you please explain if this 1900s refers to the years between 1901 and 1909? If I read it should I read it "in the nineteen hundreds"?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

Jiang

The first decade is the first 10 years: 1900 to 1910, and yes, 1900s is read "nineteen hundreds".

Hi,

I can say "in the 60s". Could you please how should I pronounce "00s"?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you in advance.

Hi jiang. I have heard the expression: the 'noughties', but in my opinion the era will probably best remembered as twenty-hundreds.

Hi,

What about 1907? Can I say "in the 00s". And if I can how should I pronounce it?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

The only other alternative would be: nineteen 'oh' seven.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your explanation. So 1900-1909 is 1900s (nineteen hundreds). Is it possible to express 1900-1909 as "in the early 1900" or "at the turn of 1900"? 1907 is nineteen 'oh' seven. I can't express this concept the way I express 1910s "in the 10s" or 1920s "in the twenties". Is that right?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

You have to say "the early 1900s" with the S.

Unfortunately, while you can say "the twenties" to refer to 1920-1929, there isn't a good way to say the 1900-1909 or even the 1910-1919 decades, except "the first (or second) decade of the 1900s."

I've heard "the oughts" (not "noughts") but it sounds very odd to me.
