Hi,
please, what does this word mean when written on the asphalt of a street (usually located next to intersections)? I couldn't find anything in the dictionary that would fit the context.
thanks.

It means 'give way'. ;-)
Yield indicates that the driver should slow down and prepare to stop if necessary (usually while merging into traffic on another road) but does not need to stop if there is no reason to. However, 'Stop' requires a full stop. :-)
