Hi,

Both a. and d. work, but if you have to choose just one, go for d.

bhaisahab,

I think I might just go with choice (a) 'very ready to'.

Choice (d) makes the sentence sound like the doctors do little else than provide patients with medicine.

What do you think?

Cheers,
Amigo

Is 'ready' a gradable adjective? Doesn't 'very ready' sound odd?
Do you think it would be better to replace 'very' with some other adverb, like 'quite', 'absolutely', etc.

Hi, Clark!

I totally agree with you! 'Very ready' is irritating to my ear!

But, given the choices from Newbie, 'very ready' seems like the best answer for the assignment. I personally would just say "The doctors are ready to provide patients with medicine."

Cheers,
Amigo

Re:

The intention is to say that doctors are too quick to provide patients with medicine when another course of treatment might be better for the patient, but the wording is off. Perhaps:
The doctors here are all too ready to provide patients with medicine.

or:

The doctors here are all too eager to provide patients with medicine.

RonBee,

The doctors are ready to pass out pills
In an effort to cure their patients' ills!

I agree with RonBee.

The doctors here are _____ provide patients with medicine.

a. very ready to
b. far ready to
c. as much as ready to
d. only too ready to

The question is testing 'very' vs 'only'. The answer is d. 'only...'

Thanks a lot, everybody, just one more question now: as native English speakers, do you think the sentence sounds completely natural and native?
I don't know but to my non-native ears, it does sound so odd (+_+)

Hi, Newbie!

I agree! The sentence is awkward sounding!

I like RonBee's sentence: "The doctors here are all too eager to provide patients with medicine."

Good luck!

Amigo
