Default meaning

The evidence of something like an unconscious, equivalent to us, are all around, in every mail.

What is the black's meaning?
Please.

"It is not yet known whether a computer has its own consciousness, and it would be hard to find out about this. When you walk into one of those great halls now built for the huge machines, and standing listening, it is easy to imagine that the faint, distant noises are the sound of thinking, and the turning of the spools gives them the look of wild creatures rolling their eyes in the effort to concentrate, choking with information. But real thinking, and dreaming, are other matters. On the other hand, the evidence of something like an unconscious, equivalent to ours, are (is) all around, in every mail (?). As extensions of the human brain, they (referring back to the beginning:computers - not to 'thinking and dreaming') have been constructed (..?.) the same property of error, spontaneous, uncontrolled, and rich in possibilities."

...and pretty poor English.

Very poor - for a University exam in English, it's atrocious! Someone should commit hara-kiri, for their shame.
The writer is saying the evidence for a 'computer unconscious' is all around us....ok

...in every mail.
The reader cannot be convinced or swayed by his argument, since how 'mail' constitutes evidence of a 'computer unconscious' is beyond me. What did the writer think he was saying?

The writer is a native English speaker. You think he made a big grammar error?

I think his grammar is poor, the expression of his ideas and phrasing is poor

It is not yet known whether a computer has its own consciousness, and it would be hard to find out about this.

and I can only think that 'mail' is one almighty typo. I've wracked my brains -mall, male - but I can't come up with a viable close match that would make sense.
