Default swimming team

Hi there.

After some very heated parent-teacher conferences you would really take a load off my shoulders if you could confirm or refute
the rumor that
swimming team
is BE. only
whereas
swim team is strictly AE.

thank you very much for your patience.

Dear B.,
Using "swim team" seems to be correct (I'm AmE), as would "tennis team"."Debate team", "swim team" are "contractions" for debating, swimming, etc. (although we don't shorten "wrestling team"...go figure!).
Thats my 2 cents............
B.

Hi,
"Swimming team" is British English, "Swim Team" is not, whether it is American English or not I don't know.

I've only ever heard "British Swimming Team".
Google gives 2,200 hits for it, and only 170 for 'British Swim Team' - and those seem to be by journalists (copying the US?).

Thank you so much,Barb_D.
So far I never realized that parents would do just about anything to "persuade" teachers to let their offspring pass.
