I will prefer the following sentence 1. The expert’s comments on the stock marketbothered him so much that he was up the whole night. or 2. The expert’s comments onthe stock market bothered him so much that he was not able to sleep the whole night or 3. The expert’s comments on the stock market bothered him so much that he was unable to sleep thewhole night Last edited by new2grammar; 15-May-2008 at 07:30.

Hi, This is my first ever post! I've thought about your question and this is the best I can come up with: He was so bothered by the expert's comments concerning the stock market that he was unable to sleep all night.

Hi estrellita-bonita Welcome on board. Why do you think 1 and 2 are inappropriate? Maybe 1&2 are grammatical correct, but don't sound natural to you native speakers. Thanks for the reply.

Hi, thanks for the welcome Yes, you are right that strictly speaking sentences 1 and 2 are not grammatically incorrect, but they sound a little awkward to a native speaker. They're probably more appropriate to spoken rather than written english.

Just as an aside, use "thet stock market" not "stock-market." You need the article, and it has no hyphen.
