| | Re: Police Highlights Hi, I call these like that: Light bar. A very common way to say that when a police car is chasing a car they "hit them blues and take off".
Hope it helps. |

thank you!!! | The single lights are "rotating beacons"; The ones that sit right across the top of the vehicle are "Lightbars". |

| | Re: Police Highlights Thanks for the answers! So ... resuming this: “rotating beacons” – single lights “light bars” – the lights that sit across the top of the vehicle “gumbal machines” - a slang term for a police cruiser, especially older cruisers that used this kind of light. “sealed beam” - a type of lamp that includes a reflector and filament as a single assembly, over which a front cover (lens), usually of clear glass, is permanently attached. ("Headlights" for automobiles may be of the sealed beam type, meaning that the reflector, the lens array on the front and the bulb are all one unit that must be replaced together in case of burnout.) Just a last question: Saying “police headlights” would be incorrect so? |

| | Re: Police Highlights Yes, since "headlights" are the main lights on the front of the vehicle. |

Those lights every car has, right? So it cannot be a synonym for "lightbars", did I get it? |
