let go of - to stop holding (e.g. let go of my hand)
let smb go - to allow smb to go (e.g. 'Let my people go')
I think they are hardly interchangeable in the last example.
Let go of me= Let me go?
Yes, they have the same meaning. But it is precise and concise to use the latter "Let me go".
