N'
A question (from a student of mine).
My town is on the news
Some guys is spreading the blues
Can't get this girl out of his head
N' all the things he should've said
What does N' mean here?
I think it's an abbreviation of "and", but I'm not sure on this one...
-
I'm sure it is -- for what it's worth
[Some guy is]

It's not "y", Francois. It's "'N".

/ 'n / is short for "and"... this is a short version (not very grammatically correct one) ...it's the way it's pronounced in fast speech so you don't really hear the "d" at the end of "and"
Is that what you needed to know, Taka?
-
Yes. That's what I wanted to know.
Thanx, Natalie!

Not sure what you mean. I've understood that you were asking about the "N" if that's what you mean, and I replied that I was sure it was a shorthand for "and". But as I'm not a teacher....
The "guy" comment was a note aside.

Why did you underline "y" of "guy"? That's what confused me.
-
My bad. As I said I just wanted to point out that the construct "some guys is" looked strange to me, but it was not the main purpose of the post.

The word guys should be guy, singular:
My town is on the news
Some
guys is spreading the blues
Can't get this girl out of his head
N' all the things he should've said

Ah, I see. It's a typo. I didn't notice it. Sorry about that. :)
