| Would you be kind enough verify the following two configurations of complex sentenses with clauses of condition? 1.1. The student hasn’t scored the necessary number of points. He hasn’t entered the institute. 1.2. If the student had scored the necessary number of points he would have entered the institute. 2.1. Gorin had excellent recommendations. He got an appointment to the University. 2.2. If Gorin had not had execlent recommendations he wouldn’t have got an appointment to the university. I am worried about the correctness of the sentence 2.2. especially the expression "had not had". Thank you in advance for your efforts. Regards. V. |

Hi Vil, You have used the clauses of unreal condition perfectly well. Don't worry about "hadn't had" at all E.g.If she hadn't gone there earlier, she would have missed the train. (but, luckily,she got there on time, thus, got on the train and was off) All the best, Mariya |
