"...the Tuesday after the accident" tells you specifically which Tuesday. There is only one Tuesday that meets this condition. You must use "the."

If you change it to "a Tuesday after the accident" then you mean any Tuesday that followed the accident, even one that was 30 years later.

"The Tuesday after the accident" fixes the precise day.

"A Tuesday after the accident" simply tells you that it happened on a Tuesday.
