present perfect?

Hi ,

I've just sent an email and i'm having a doubt now!

This is what I wrote (have written?):

"I managed to obtain an appointment next Monday at 2.00".


Would it have been better to write: "I've managed to obtain...."?


I sometimes get really confused by the present perfect!

Sometimes it doesn't matter which you choose. This is a case in point: both are correct here. Plus, in American English you very often use the past simple where we (the British) would use the present perfect. (the only instances where the Americans use the present perfect are when something is still true: eg "I've been living in France since 2007/for the last 18 months". I see you are French so the rule would be - for American English - if you have since or for meaning depuis then you use the present perfect.)
