'go on' and 'continue'
Hello, Teachers.
I have several questions about the usage of go on and continue.
1. I saw the following sentence in a dictionary:
He paused to take a sip of water, and then went on with his story.
1.1. Can I say he paused to take a sip of water, and then went on with telling his story? Can I use go on with doing sth?
1.2. Can I say he paused to take a sip of water, and then went on telling his story? Can I use go on doing sth to describe a action after a break?
2. Is 'continue to do sth' the same as 'continue doing sth'?
Thanks in advance.

You can say "he went on telling his story, Enydia with no 'with'.
Go on with sth
OR
Go on doing sth

Answered above.

Some verbs take both forms with little or no change in meaning. 'continue' seems to be one of them.
Let's continue to think/thinking this thru.
Thanks in advance.

[So, go on doing sth can mean continue an activity without or with a pause, can't it? ]

[What about the verbs begin and start?]

Let's begin/start to think/thinking this thru.
I think so. My brain is kinda fried. Long day. Let's hear what others think.
