much / many / a lot of

Hello everbody,

I know that I use many by countable nouns,
and much by uncountable nouns.

But when I have to use "a lot of " :?

'a lot of' and 'lots of' can be used with uncountable nouns and plural countable nouns. ;-)

But avoid them in formal writing.
