Hi everyone,
my name is Heidi. I have to write an essay and came across some problems while writing. There are some sentences which sound a bit queer and I'm never quiet sure if they are OK or not. I was wondering if anyone could help me ?
Thank you very much for your time, it will surely be most helpful for me!
1 He lives in a world of usefulness but he holds against this view.
(Meaning: He does not like the idea of a world determined by
usefulness)

grammatically OK?)

b) Under the table there is a carpet.
(Is sentence a) grammatically OK? Or do you have to use b)?)
4 Are these sentences correct:
a) I find it good.
b) I find it is good.
5 Is this word order acceptable:

6 Using reported speech, when do you have to use an introducing verb in the PRESENT tense and when does it have to be in the PAST tense?
Example: I write my essay and I want to quote from an interview ( Ihave the interview as printed text on my desk).
a) In the interview he said that...
b) In the interview he says that...
7 Are they both correct/ Is b) acceptable?

8 How do you translate these sentences:
a) Man muss nur in's Internet gehen
b) Ich habe bei Google gesurft.
c) Im Internet (fand ich diesen Aufsatz).

11 Can you say..
He is critical with art. (Er ist kritisch in Bezug auf Kunst)
12 Is this word order OK?

13 Sometimes you have to use "when" instead of "if". But do you also have to apply the rules for if-clauses for these sentences?
14 Which sentence is correct? I believe that the verb has to go with the subject but sentence b) sounds OK, doesn't it?
a) His hobby is the colours of the impressionists.
b) His hobby are the colours of the impressionists.
15 Are they both OK?
a) It's a combination of different forms to create a new form.
b) It's a combination of different forms in order to create a new form.
c)The concepts seem to me different.
d) The concepts seem to me to be different.
16 Is that OK:

I know it's quite a lot but it would be most helpful for me if you answered these questions... Heidi.
