Default Strong verbs

Could you please advise me what strong verbs are and how to use them? English is my second language, I was born in The Netherlands. I'm writing my memoir and have been advised to use strong verbs.
Thanks for your help

Post Re: Strong verbs

Hi - strong verbs are used to emphasize the meaning of the sentence and make the reader visualize what is presented, some examples:
- He looked at the picture. --> he gazed at the picture.
- The pitcher threw the ball a little low. --> The pitcher tossed the ball a little low.

These are similar to synonyms of the word but directly fit into the sentence easily.

Cheers

Default Re: Strong verbs

Strong verbs-verbs that form their past tense by merely changing the vowel in the body of the present, without adding and ending.
Ex:write-wrote
fly-flew.

Weak verbs:verbs that form their past tenseby adding-ed,-d or -t.
talk-talked
burn -burnt
sell-sold.

Hi RJ.

That's very interesting and it obviously has some merit, but in this case, it simply doesn't seem to fit contextually. It seems unlikely that was what Petern's adviser was suggesting.
