Question difference between short stories and novel

hello sir!!!

sir i want to know that what are the essential elements that make a short story...and how is it different from a novel.... plz guide me in detail....
i have to differentiate them in my assignment...and i dont know much about them...plz guide me..thanks.

The first and probably the biggest difference is that the short story is short and the novel is relatively long.
