Is this a correct usage of the word "zeal"?

Is this sentence correct? And I'm using the word "zeal" in a correct way?

The sentence:
I have a zeal to write poems.

Hi soulfly, in my opinion this is not a wrong usage of the word, but to my way of thinking I would prefer 'I have a zeal for poem writing'.

'zeal' means showing great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective.
So, you might say, His poems demonstrate his zeal for championing the cause of wild life preservation/ His poems reflect the zeal with which he champions his anti-war stance.
