Passive present perfect Vs stative When describing someting, some times the importance is given to action and some times it is to state.Iam little bit confused of when to use which one.
Let me explain my doubt clearly with an exapmle...........
Suppose, for example,a book is lying on that floor and i have placed it on the table............
Now consider the following sentences..........
1) That book is placed on the table.
2)That book has been placed on the table.
3) that book was placed on the table.
Considering the fact that book is still lying on the table 1 & 2 or correct.........But i don't know when to use 1 and when to use 2.
In the present context 3 is not correct, since the book is still lying on the table.Isn'tit? Even if one uses that from the point of view of action, for the list it would create the confusion whether the bookis still lying or not.Correct if my thoughs are wrong.
Now another set of questions on the same thing...........
Now if i have tell about the state of the book before placing on that table, which among the following are correct.............
4) Before the book has been placed on the table it was lying on the floor.
5)before the book is placed on the table it was lying on the floor.
6)before the book was placed on the table it was lying on the floor.
I think 4 and 5 are correct........but i don'tknow when to use 4 and when to use 5.
But coming to 6, considering the fact that book is still lying on the table can we use "before the book was placed....." ?Doesn't it create the ambiguty whether the book is still lying on the table or not? |
