Default Please correct my sentences (many, much, a lot of)

Hello everyone,

at first thanks to tdol for the explanation.

Now I have made an exercise about it in my book. There was a cloze which I have to complete with many, much and a lot of.

It would be very nice of you, if you improve my mistakes.

1.) There's a lot of oil.
2.) The shop has a lot of bottles of water.
3.) There isn't many frozen food.
4.) There aren't much sweets.
5.) The shopkeeper has got a lot of cheese.
6.) I can see a lot of newspapers.
7.) But I can't see many bread.
8.) There isn't many yoghurt.
9.) The shop hasn't got many birthday cards.
10.) But there are a lot of grapes!
11.) Why aren't there a lot of magazines.
12.) But thre is much rice!

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Dany :D

Hello Red5,

Thanks for your corrections :D
I have some questions now.

to 4.) I don't think, that sweets are countable, are they?

to 7.) I think that bread is a countable noun, isn't it?
(There is one bread or there are two breads and so on)

to 12.) Tdol have said, that "a lot of" can be used by uncountable nouns or by countable nouns if they are plural. Rice isn't countable and it isn't a plural in my oppinion.
Why have you used [/b]a lot of in this sentence :?

Kind regards,
Dany

No, here "sweet" = "candy" => countable

to 7.) I think that bread is a countable noun, isn't it?
(There is one bread or there are two breads and so on)
No, we say a loaf of bread => some bread.

to 12.) Tdol have said, that "a lot of" can be used by uncountable nouns or by countable nouns if they are plural. Rice isn't countable and it isn't a plural in my oppinion.
Why have you used [/b]a lot of in this sentence Confused
There is not much rice <> there is a lot of rice.
