Does one fight sleep or sleepiness? or... drowsiness?

How would you qualify the head movements of someone just on the verge of falling asleep while seated. Could one's head fall and jerk back? Is one's head doddling (I can't find this in the dictionary and very few occurences on the web)?

Either is fine - they are pretty much synonymous.

I like doddling, but it is not a common word, and probably you will be better to keep to something like ""His head began to drop forwards but jerked upright again". "He nodded off but woke and jerked his head upright"
