There is a lot of parking space = there is plenty of space in which to park

There are a lot of parking spaces = there are many individual spaces [slots] in which vehicles are parked.

Yes, the word "space" can be pluralized. There are spaces between each word as you type.

"parking lots" are large or even huge areas where usually up to dozens, hundreds or rarely thousands of cars can be parked. A parking space, in a parking lot or elsewhere, is where one car can park. A parkade is a multilevel parking facility.

Oh, that's not what we call it here. We call an individual parking space a parking lot and the whole place with all the parking lots a car park.

In Br. English, a car park contains a number of parking spaces.

And in the US a parking lot will contain a number of parking spaces.

A "stall" is not used in this context at all. It is generally used in relation to housing animals.
