This is her or This is She?
Hi,
The following came up in a telephone conversation.
Caller: May i speak to Angela please?
Angela: "This is her."
Is Her correct? Should it not be " This is she?"
Could someone clarify please?
Regards,
Arun

Re: This is her or This is She?
I am not a teacher, but the way I see it, the answer "This is her" is like saying "You are talking to her".
I think she speaks of herself in third person, so "her" is an object and therefore is correct.
Just my two cents.

While on the phone, This is her says You are talking to her (to Angela), whereas This is she says She (Angela) is talking to you.

Re: This is her or This is She?
It's like using the introductory it in cleft sentences:
It's her (not she) that you're talking to.
It's she (or her) that is talking to you.

A thread similar to this was posted a couple of weeks before.
The correct responses are:
1)Speaking.
2)It's me/I.Angela.Speaking.
When Angela is speaking ,why do you use 'she'(third person)
