Paraphrase this sentence
Would you help paraphrasing this sentence?
They love to rally the facts, volley the figures, intimidate, whip back with snappy replies, and trap the other person in his own reasoning.
I wanted to translate it into Arabic but I couldn't due to the meanings of some words such as
volley the figures (the verb volley) here is doesn't make sense to me
whip back ?
Although I checked over 4 dictionaries, I got nothing at the end.
Thanks in advance

The figures are rapidly passed backwards and forwards [like a volley in a tennis match].

They love to get the facts together, rapidly exchange the figures, intimidate, make quick and short replies, and catch the other person out through his own use of logic.
