#1 Could you please tell me what the difference between "rural area" and "countryside" is? Are they same concept?

#2 If I refer to an place where peasants /farmers grow plants, rear livestocks, which one is suitable? Or any other good expression?

1. Rural is a more specific phrase, meaning sparsely populated, in contrast to urban or suburban.

Countryside is used more to describe what you see.

I like living where I live because it's so rural. There are farms everywhere, and the countryside is so pretty to drive through.

2. It's very rare to hear the word "peasants" when describing modern society. Farms tend to be in rural areas. However, where I live is actually suburban, and I drive right past a huge corn field to get on the highway.

And I appreciate you tell me the application of peasants. I refers to China's countryside. And I think most people in China's countryside are peasants rather than farmers. The conditions here are totally different with Americans'. The concepts are Chinese peasants and American farmers.

Rural-place where the main activity is agriculture and generally underdeveloped.Rural area and coutryside are same in meaning,but the urbanites refer countryside as picturesque,unpolluted and clean besides rural.

In France also, small farmers are called 'paysans' which means 'peasants' in English.

Essentially they mean the same = the regions that are not urban. Countryside tends to carry a more picturesque sense of open land, trees, fields, peaceful scenes. Rural can also be used to describe somewhere that looks like countryside but is in fact not: Central Park in New York has a very rural feel to it.

'Paysans' is quite commonly used and maybe also used in a vulgair meaning (slang). E.g.
You dressed like a peasant meaning you are very badly dressed.
Tu es habillé(e) comme un paysan voulant dire tu es très mal habillé(e).

By the way, peasant may be used in many contexts. In French, lots of words have got many meanings.

J'espère que tu apprendras le français en plus de l'anglais.
