What she did was screaming.

What she does is writing science fiction.

Anything wrong with these sentences? Please.

I'm sorry.I COULDN'T ANSWER CORRECTLY IN THE PREVIOUS POST.

SeeBarb-D'S post.

Rj1948,
I know what Barb's meaning. But I wonder what's wrong with two sentences above. I think they are grammatically right, don't they?

in nearly all cases. But there was, for example - in the glory-days of Hammer Horror films - an actress who was known for her blood-curdling screaming. Speaking of her, a dismissive critic might well have said "What she does is screaming - that's all' or an casting director might have said to an agent 'I don't want dramatic niceties, just get me someone who does screaming'.

PS The more general point is that the verb 'do gerund' is sometimes used to refer to an occupational speciality: 'He mostly does painting and decorating, but I think he does roofing as well'.

Yes. Aside from Bob's great find
Ex: What she does [for a living] is screaming.
Rule => She is screaming / What she does is screaming.
your example sentences, puzzle, don't work that way:
Ex: What she did was scream.
Rule => She screamed / What she did was scream

Ex: What she does for a living is write.
Rule => She writes / What she does is write
