Hi,

Context : A phone conversation

A customer service rep. is verifying information on the phone.

My question is : which of the choices above in bold ( isnt It/ isn't this/ is that ) is correct?

Can someone clarify please?

Thanks,

CSR: This is the spelling I have, S-M-I-T-H.

Is that (what I just spelled) correct?
Is it (the spelling) correct?
Is this (the information I am giving you right now) correct?

Isn't that/it/this correct?
=> used when in doubt

Thank you Soup,

Are you implying that these are not tag questions? -- and therefore the negative (isn't) doesn't follow the statement?

Regards,

Arun

These are not question tags.

Greystroke, these are tags:

1. This is the spelling I have, isn't it?
2. This is the spelling I have, isn't this?
3. This is the spelling I have, is that?

The last one is ungrammatical, and the other two are not what you would expect to hear when information is being verified. See Post #2.
