Default to get too close for comfort

What is the meaning of this phrase in this context?

"The pastures provide endless amounts of lush grass for birds to nest in and for livestock to eat. It would seem there’s plenty for everybody - but occasionally they can get too close for comfort. "

Thank you!

If "they" refers to the "birds' nests" and the "feeding livestock" - it perhaps means that they are getting in the way of one another and the encounters are causing problems.

Thank you! It's just that I found that it is a phrase that means:
"worrying because of a possible direct effect on you" and I don't get it in this context.

If, for example, someone nearly has an accident, pehaps almost crashes his car , he could say "That was too close for comfort!"
