Presidential hopeful senators Barack Obama and John McCain were there as well as members of Congress, television journalists and several generations of politicians from both parties. The "Meet the Press" host died Friday of a heart attack.
What do the bold words mean? And the sentence? My teacher taugh me that 'would have done sth.' mean sth. was supposed to happen in the past but it didn't. In respect of this sentence, does it mean that these people are a big panel to appear on the news show(Meet the Press)?
"Unfortunate” Tiger Woods is done for the year. That'sbecause the golfer is having surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee. Woods has been dealing with the injury for the last ten months.
Do the bold words refer that Tiger Woods won't take part in any competition for the whole year?

The deceased was a leading TV chat show host, and on chat shows, the guests are known as the panel. So these people would have been just the sort of people who would have appeared on his show.

He is not able to play for the rest of the year - his participation has been finished by his accident.
