I would not tinker with my mother tongue. It evolves naturally, and things too complicated or unnecessary become archaic by themselves. We have a lot of archaic tenses in French. The process works.
If I need to fill some gaps, there are slang and colloquial expressions. They can even make it into the standard langague with some time.
