sound strange to you?

Well, I cannot decide if 'then' and ''meant to' can be used one after the other. Perhaps I am alone with this, but it sounds strange to me:

The first chapter will explore ... . Then, the second chapter is meant to explore the inability of ...

Do you all find it strange, too or can I use it in a scientific paper?

They're not related to each other at all...of course you can use them after each other...

'is meant to' , in this context, has the implication, "it's what I intended, but little me, I'm not sure whether I've made a very good job of it." Not advisable to suggest in a scientific journal.

Perhaps, "...is intended as an exploration of..." This suggest a politely modest, earnest endeavour.
