Default Please give my salutations

I don't see many instances of "Please give my salutations to" (X and Y) or variants thereof on Google. Is it some weird or awkward way of saluting people in writing?

Actually, I'd like to politely salute people I have never met but whom I'll meet in a couple weeks. I figured "Please say hi" sounded like I knew them already or just too familiar.

Why not to say " I'm looking forward to meet you ..
  • the next week?
  • on July the 20th?....etc
and you are right "Please say hi" is ussually reserved for people you've already known for a while...
