Which verb shall I use (confirm, corroborate, bear out, etc,) if a specialist has the 4th level of language proficiency, and after passing the test he receives the same (required) level?
E.g. Ten specialists............. the 4th level of language proficiency.
Thank you.
Possibilities:
- The tests confirm that 10 specialists have the 4th level of lanuage proficiency.
- Through these tests, 10 specialists have confirmed that they have the 4th level language proficiency.
- The tests demonstrate that the 10 specialists continue to have the 4th level of language proficiency.
- 10 specialists show that they have level 4 language proficiency.
- 10 specialists demonstrate level 4 language proficiency on these tests.
- These tests show that 10 specialists have the 4th level of language proficiency.
It confirms the truth, the validity, of the previous result. The first test gave a result, but tests can be wrong. In your example, the second test thus 'establishes the truth or correctness of something previously thought to be true, or believed, or suspected, or feared to be true.'
'corroborate' is when a person confirms or supports what another person says.
'bear out' is when some evidence comes along that confirms or supports an assumption or belief.
