Default What's it?

Hi,

Can we say ' What's it?', or we have to say 'What is it?'? Is it wrong to say 'What's it?'?

Thanks

As a simple question, What is it? is what you should say.

As part of a question - What's it worth? - you can use the other.

If you want somebody to identify an object, you can also say 'What's this?' or 'What's that?' depending on the situation.
