I'm not a professional teacher, and some of that was beyond me, but I would agree that in general everyday speech, one should not use "be" in the way we're discussing here. Nevertheless, I stand by my earlier post that it is "not wrong" in the right context, when used deliberately, as part of an archaic phrase.

It is wrong 99.99% of the time because we don't talk like 18th century pirates, but when we use it for effect, it is correct.
