| Was wondering if anyone out there could tell me how they would pronounce the following egyptian pharaoh's names: Khafre.... Khufu.... Menkaure.... I have been searching on the net but had no luck in finding a sight and we have quite a debate going on in my office as to which it should be..... Any comments appreciated. |

| You also need to be aware that transliteration systems differ. What is now called - almost universally - the Pyramid of Khufu - used to be called (in the time of the British Empire) the Pyramid of Cheops. They both represent the same name - known in Greek as Χέωψ - but it would be perverse, if reading a period document, to pronounce "Cheops" /'ku:fu:/. b |
