If money goes, money comes. If money stays, death comes.
I just recall opening lines of an English literature novel, which was in the syllabus of MA English in the University.
The opening lines were:- If money goes, money comes. If money stays death comes. Can you please give me the name of the novel and its author and a brief outline of the story.
I shall be obliged,
Yours truly,

(not a professional teacher) Googling the entire phrase suggests that the words were from "A Passage to India", by E.M. Forster.
