| Here are my new problem areas ".....playing havoc with my skin " Adrian says somewhere. What is meant by it? "go to take advantage of their OAP cheap beer offer" What is that OAP ???? '.....Grandma started fidgeting and whispering about getting back to switch her sprouts on.' I couldn't understand the meaning here? What is the meaning of 'sprouts'? Adrian says " I think mother is cracking up " How does she behave ? The book says "She is behaving even more strangely than usually." '.....old yellow Observers' Isn't 'Observer' a newspaper ,if so why yellow ?? '............puddles of nylon knickers on the floor' I understand nylon nickers but what's that puddles or puddles of nylon knickers '....Her bedside shelves are full of the yukky junk she buys from the second hand shops and stinking old books.' What is 'yukky junk'???? '....All my father got on his shelves are his AA book.' What can an AA book be about? What kind of books are they? '.....I asked my father why he had married my mother.Talk about opening the floodgates!Fifteen years of bitterness and resentment spilled out.' Can you explain the underlined words? What do they refer to??? There is a mongrel in the book -called Mitzi .Is Mitzi a dog or a cat??? In the book Mitzi was being prepared for Crufts and Adrian says Mitzi musn't suffer any stress. What is Crafts??? Why mustn't Mitzi suffer stress? I hope you aren't tired of reading. If I get the answers I will be very pleased. ,But I am afraid ,my questions will continue like this. |

Well, I don't have all the answers, but perhaps I have a few."playing havoc with my skin" Apparently, he is allergic to something and he had a bad reaction to it. Apparently, "mother" is behaving oddly. Apparently, the paper the Observer is printed on is yellow. Or if they have old ones they might have turned yellow. The phrase "puddles of nylon knickers on the floor" might mean that there are a bunch of nylon knicers on the floor in a heap. Do you know what "yukky" means? AA - Alcoholics Anonymous The words came pouring out as if floodgates had been opened. Mitzi is almost certainly a dog. If you owned a dog you would understand why a dog owner wouldn't want his dog to suffer any stress. |

| Hi Ronbee,The Spiderman, Thanks a lot .Have you heard this Adrian? It's really difficult to read a book in the second language you are learning.Because books reflect culture. My questions will continue I am afraid. By the way after looking at this message I have a new question now. Will there be 'the' before 'Spiderman' |
