Default Series of returning apartments?

Hello Everyone,

China’s real estate markets are witnessing tumultuous periods.
In most of China’s metropolis, like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen… The price each square meters of apartments have soaring to some RMB 15,000 or USD 2205, which is far beyond common customers’ capability.

Recently, to take control of inflation and to avoid mortgage crises as that occurred in the U.S., the Chinese central authority has tightened credits. Consequently all the real estate developer or distributor is forced to speed up the sales of apartments by cutting down the prices or through some promoting activities. As a result,in recent two months, the prices has dropped by some USD 450 per square meters. Lots of customers who have signed the buying contracts crowds to the reception offices to demand to cancel the contract or to decrease the prices to the current level.

A Chinese Media publish a passage titled as “Series of returning apartments damaging/burning the turmoil housing markets, the decreasing housing prices testing financial stability”, roughly translated by me.

I am wondering whether you can correct the title for me! Esp. series here, can use tide here to replace series? If translated directly, series should be changed by tide.

Regards

Sky

I am bewildered by the term you use - 'returning apartments'. Could you please explain what you mean by that? How could the 'returning apartments' damage/spoil the housing market?
Or are you talking about the series of credit tightening measures imposed by the central government to curb the soaring property prices.

Ah..thanks for the clarification...nothing like reading the orginal message.

So, your 'returning apartments' refers to the apartment purchase transactions which fell through (return apartments like you return goods bought) due to failure of the buyers to get loans to pay for the properties.

How about this for the title:

Deluge of failed apartment transactions hits property market causing prices to fall, financial sector put to test.

Your version is much better, esp the sentence structure, usage of deluge, hit and property!

However, failed apartment transaction can't reflect the original meaning--the buyers have purchased apartments, they are eager to return them because property prices are much cheaper than they bought. So I hope other experts can offer their opinions here?

It is not just a matter of returning the apartments. They want to cancel the property transactions, don't they? So, they can be considered 'failed transactions'. I can't think of a more accurate term to describe this.

Let's see if the teachers have a better term for it.

They're either transactions that have failed or contracts being torn up; I agree that you can't return the apartment in the title.
