First seems ok.
In the second, you had better use the gerund form of "go" therefore "going" as the word "prefer" is connected with it rather than with an infinitive. Howerer, in coloquial forms you can sometimes find the 'incorrect' one.
Then: I prefer going home by walk/by walk/walking to riding a bus.
