Default approaches to writing

I would like to know what is “a genre –approach to writing” mean exactly I have been searching in the website but I didn’t find anything useful to help me understand. Also i want to know how this approach came about because I read that there are other approaches like bottom-up and process but a genre approach is better what is special about this writing approach for second language learner
Thanks in advanced.
Yours truly,
Sarah
