Default My family and I

Good evening. We are an English family living in Germany. My daughter is in a German school, and when she wrote a sentence today "I have to earn some money for my family and I", she was told by her teacher that it was incorrect. It should have been "my family and me". When my daughter said that she had been taught otherwise her teacher asked for proof. Could someone tell me if my daughter is correct or not, and if she is, is the other way, "my family" and me, incorrect. If so why?. Many thanks.

Hello,

I would say, that "for my family and me" is correct.
Im deutschen sagen war ja auch "für meine Familie und mich" und nicht "für meine Familie und ich".

But "my family and I want to go on holiday" is correct.
Meine Familie und ich wollen in den Urlaub (NICHT: Meine Familie und mich wollen in den Urlaub).

I hope that you understand it now :)

Kind regards,
Dany :D

Dear Dany,

Sorry, could you explain that for me?
I am a little confused.

So in this sentence - I have to earn some money for my family and me.
my family and me are objects.

And in the sentence - my family and I want to go on holiday, my family and I are subjects.

Am I right?

Thanks.

Hello Nicolas,

I think so. But I'm not sure, because I mixed objects and subjects very often. Perhaps another one could help you more. By me it is always on a gut level

Kind regards,
Dany :D

That's right.

I have to earn some money for my family and me. (Object)
I have to earn some money for us. (Object)

My family and I want to go on holiday. (Subject)
We want to go on holiday. (Subject)

All the best, :D
