Good afternoon,
I need a help as for spelling of "program"/"programme". Program is American and programme is British? Am I right?
Thanks,
Marketa
jirickova, welcome aboard! I would agree with Tzfujimino; the only other "wrench in the works" is that I've seen PROGRAM used in British documents and presentation papers when talking about "Windows" programming (as though 'program' were part of the proper noun). I believe your initial premise will fly.
The effect of the home computer, with most software and books from the States using the American spelling, 'program', has been that this spelling has been adopted here in Britain with regard to computers.
You may still find the spelling 'programme' used if you buy one of those illustrated booklets for a performance at a theatre in Britain, and when talking about the 'programme' for an afternoon of sports events.
I would agree with David. Also, a tv programme is still a "programme".

Thanks to all of you. I must say that I should change my spelling in some cases. Thanks once more.
